Back to Celexa side effects

The stories below are from people that have taken Celexa. If you are having side effects from Celexa, you are not alone. Often bizarre side effects come with Celexa and other SSRI usage. If you have side effects from Celexa and would like to share them with readers of this Web Site, please use the form at the bottom of this page.

"Only took Celexa a month because I  couldn't stand myself much more after that.  Was emotionally numb.  Tried to convince myself i was just "calm" when dead was a better description.  In a month I gained 3 lbs. Ate nothing but sweets because I craved them. Would lie down to take a short nap and 3 hours later would wake up. Slept about 11 hours out of the day. Could fall asleep sitting up in the middle of a conversation. Joints sore, leg cramps. Hot flashes. No sexual feelings whatsoever. A good drug to give to child molesters and rapists, in my opinion. I just stopped it cold. Figured I couldn't feel any worse off it than I already did taking it. Only exercise I got was turning over in bed. Would just "drift off" in the middle of working and suddenly realize 30 minutes or more had passed."

"I have been on Celexa 60mg. for one year and I have noticed that I have developed new OCD symptoms and many times when I stare at something it will shimmer, like looking through heat."

"Celexa: Terrible acid reflux and abdominal pains."

"Taking Celexa for PMS; I have inexplicable bouts of extreme irritability, especially with my children. The intense anger I feel is absolutely alarming. The PMS symptoms were easier to understand."

"Celexa was like taking Haldol for me. I could not read, watch TV or do anything.  I walked around in a fog on 20 mg daily. I was totally impotent, constipated and my BP ranged in the 90/50 area ( from 140/90)."

"I felt like I was having a whack attack! I couldn't think straight and I still haven't fully recovered my memory of things that I could recall prior to taking the Celexa."

"Dizziness, jittery, hyper sensitive, trouble sleeping, complete fall of libido, nervousness, mind racing and upset stomach."

"I have been on Celexa for about 5 years.  I have become dizzy, have muscle and joint pain (flu-like symptoms), poor memory, extreme fatigue and lack of motivation. aggravated depression, anxiety--and the worst, most disturbing symptoms, numb hands and feet and severe headaches (everyday).  I asked my doctor if these were symptoms of allergy to Celexa, and he did not answer me.  He seemed to be a little angry and told me that I was welcome to seek a second opinion.  A friend's doctor told him nobody should be on an SSRI for over a year--most depressions clear up even without medication in that time.  If there is a situation in your life that is causing your depression, and you can't figure a way out of it, I think it would be more prudent to see a good psychologist who does cognitive belief system therapy or talk to your church counselor.  They will give you advice--psychiatrists won't; they just want to change or add more medicine.  I am trying to go off Celexa now.  I wish I had known what kind of side effects I could suffer while going off this drug."

"I was on Celexa. I think it did a lot of good for me for awhile but I gained 20 pounds!!! I also never felt like having sex, had trouble concentrating or learning information that I had studied over and over again (I am a med student, so this is no good!), and had a feeling that my moods were just TOO regular, that there was never any change or variety at all. So I quit, cold turkey, about a week ago. I couldn't take it any more: I was running four times a week and STILL none of my pants fit me!"

After 2 Celexa pills I have been up most of the night with my heart racing, body felt tingly and then hot and cold. Felt like I was going to pass out, dizzy, almost had my husband take me to the hospital!"

Paranoia, anxiety, brain fog, memory loss... Celexa for 2 years... help!"

"My toes on my left foot are blue and always ice cold. I am taking 20 mg. of Celexa."
